BLADEN COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) -Two Bladenboro residents are charged with felony obtaining property by false pretenses after the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office investigated a complaint involving three headstones.

The victim told investigators she bought three headstones for a loved one from Memory Lane Monuments in Bladenboro about two years ago. Two were delivered but did not match what she ordered and paid for, and she was referred to civil court, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Investigators later learned the third headstone, which was paid for separately, was never delivered. The Sheriff’s Office said it consulted the District Attorney’s Office about criminal charges.

Phyllis Hester McDaniel, 56, turned herself in and was released on a $5,000 unsecured bond. The sheriff’s office said James Kynston Lee Rittenhouse, 33, had not been served with his warrants.
