BRUNSWICK COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – Brunswick County commissioners voted 3-2 denying a motion to send a letter asking Planning Board Chair Clifton Cheek to step down and leave the board.
Commissioner Randy Thompson made the motion. Thompson said the planning board has approved developments that commissioners did not approve, including one that county staff recommended against. Thompson said those decisions show the board’s leadership needs to change.
Thompson and Pat Sykes were the two commissioners who voted in favor of requesting Cheek’s resignation. Commissioners Mike Forte, Marty Cooke, and Frank Williams voted against it.
CORRECTION: WECT previously reported incorrectly that the vote was 3-2 in favor of requesting Cheek’s resignation.
